PIMRC 2026: WSL Presents Research on Dual-Chirp AFDM in Rydberg Atomic Receivers
The 2026 IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) was held from September 1 to 4 in Singapore. WSL members from Hanyang University attended the conference to present their recent research.
Ph.D. candidate Hanvit Kim presented "Dual-Chirp AFDM for Joint Delay-Doppler Estimation with Rydberg Atomic Quantum Receivers," developed in collaboration with researchers from Hanyang University and Constructor University Bremen. The study introduces a dual-chirp affine frequency division multiplexing (AFDM) waveform that enables atomic receivers to jointly estimate a moving target's range and velocity. By using two distinct chirp rates, the approach resolves the ambiguity between signal delay and Doppler shift in the receiver's optical measurements.
Numerical simulations demonstrated improved estimation accuracy over the study's single-chirp AFDM baseline, highlighting the potential of combining waveform design with atomic sensing for future integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems.
