KIEES 2026-Summer: WSL Presents Recent Work on Rydberg-Atomic Receivers and Electromagnetic Scattering
The 2026 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science (KIEES) was held from August 19 to 22 at the Alpensia Resort in Pyeongchang, South Korea. WSL members from Hanyang University attended the conference and shared their recent research on atomic receivers and electromagnetic scattering.
Joint M.S./Ph.D. student Jiwoo Nam and coauthors proposed a movable array of Rydberg atomic receivers for estimating signal arrival directions across multiple frequency bands. Their Joint Sparse and Dense Array (JSDA) combines closely and widely spaced receiver elements, adjusting their positions to reduce directional ambiguity at higher frequencies while maintaining angular resolution at lower frequencies.
M.S. student Dongjun Kim presented research on radar cross section analysis of a spherical scatterer using a hybrid method of moments and finite-difference time-domain (MoM-FDTD) algorithm. Comparisons with Mie theory and conventional FDTD showed that the hybrid approach achieved comparable accuracy under the tested conditions, supporting its application to electromagnetic scattering analysis.
